IAPS sailing results

Our two senior teams did really well with a best place of 10th out of 59 boats in race one.
Overall our two boats came 26th and 35th after all four races. A very respectable result considering this is our first ever regatta and our limited racing experience.

Day Two of the IAPS Regatta

Today the wind is calmer for our two senior crews. It's 10 knots gusting 13 knots. There are 118 pupils from 26 schools sailing 59 boats. Here they all are:
And our Y7&8 team
They all set off for the start
In boats 23 & 26 from the centres new fleet.
After the first two races, in which they finished towards middle of the pack, it's back for lunch
And refuelling for the second half of the event.
No official results yet but parental guesstimates put them about halfway up the fleet.

IAPS Sailing regatta Day One

Day one of the IAPS Sailing regatta saw our junior teams put to the test with a variety of conditions.
Fifty six boats were rigged by the children from schools both local and from all over the south.
Our two boats set off from the shore with the wind peaking at over 20 knots for the first two races.
Binoculars were essential for a good view
And it was important to remember the sail numbers.
An hour break for lunch and a warm up.
The wind died off in the afternoon so the going was somewhat slower.
After the two afternoon races all returned safely and the results were calculated.
Our teams produced some very respectable results.
Our Y4&5 girls came 42nd out of 56
And our Y6 boys came halfway down the field at 23rd.
A great pair of results for our first IAPS regatta.

Art Auction breaks records

A huge thank you to Brambletye parents, pupils and friends, who took part in our annual charity art auction in aid of our school charity, the Halow Project.
We raised over £8,000 and all 45 lots comprising work painted and sculpted by  Art Scholars, teachers and parents.

Day two of race training

The weather is much kinder to the sailing squad today. They have even seen a little sunshine.
Knitted up for any weather
Ready for launch
They are away
Don't forget the crew
Heading for the mark
Where there can be a bit of confusion
And off on a run.

The eight Brambletye sailors who make up our IAPS squad came to Weymouth today for a training session.
They are sailing picos as they will be in the regatta and in Portland harbour where the regatta takes place.

8S in Dorset

8S have had an excellent time here in Dorset. They have seen geological features
Walked a length of the Jurassic coast
And climbed on dancing ledge
Which was a great achievement for some who managed to overcome a fear of heights
