Pupils in Years 6 to 8 recently achieved a record
number of certificates in this year’s UK Intermediate Mathematical
Challenge, designed primarily for much older pupils approaching GCSE.
Normally,
only the top stream pupils in Years 7 and 8 are entered for this
challenge at Brambletye but this year the field was stronger than ever
before and included several gifted and talented Year 6’s. Between the 30
candidates they achieved 4 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze certificates, a total
which broke the school’s existing record of 13.
Five pupils did so well that
they qualified for the next stage, known as the European Kangaroo, for the most
able Year 9 and below in Europe. Remarkably, one of these pupils is
only in Year 6.
Entering challenges such as this is a vital part of
Brambletye’s Gifted and Talented policy for stretching able pupils
