Brambletye Girls train with Ashley Jackson

Yesterday, the Brambletye Y7 and Y8 girls trained with Ashley Jackson at East Grinstead Hockey Club. Ashley has just recently moved back to EGHC, one of the top Hockey Clubs in the country. He is considered to be one of the best players in the world and was one of the key members of Team GB who went to the recent Rio Olympics.

A huge thank you to EGHC and Ashley for this session. It will be a very useful part of their preparation for the upcoming Sports and Art Tour to Amsterdam.

Beautiful evening for sailing.

This afternoon there were perfect conditions on the reservoir for all abilities.
The sun shone and a steady westerly breeze had pupils sailing all over Wierwood.
The water was still warm and the air temperature very respectable for this time of year.
We could even see Brambletye on the hill in the distance.
The sailers made a special effort to pack away and had all the boats off the water and in the boat park in record time - 13 minutes.
The experienced seniors were a very good example to the novice sailors.
Well done Brambletye sailors.

Colts win Brambletye VIs

After two years of being rained off due to unusually wet Septembers, the Brambletye VIs Tournament took place yesterday. Brambletye welcomed pupils from St. Christopher's,  Cumnor house, Copthorne, Cottesmore, Ashdown House and Belmont for U13 and U11 six-a-side tournaments.

The standard of football was exceedingly high and there were some excellent passes, tackles and shots (even one successful 'Rabona').

Congratulations to Brambletye U11s who won their tournament beating Cumnor 2-1 in a tense and hard-fought final.

Over £17,000 raised for the Halow Project

Last Friday we welcomed Ann Kenney from the Halow Project to accept the cheque for £17,095.60 from last year’s amazing fundraising efforts. A huge thank you goes to all involved: pupils, staff and very importantly, parents for their most generous support. This sum is the third highest ever raised by Brambletye. Well done everybody.

Brambletye Survival Camp

On the Bank Holiday Monday 20 brave Brambletye pupils from Years 3 to 8, spent the day building shelters which they then slept in over night.

Building Shelters took a couple of hours ...

Then after a go no the new school 220m zip wire and a swim, it was time to think about supper and how we were going to cook it. We had to make fire ...

We had then to check that the fire was working by toasting marshmallows.

The night was mostly peaceful, with the occasional owl screech and fox yelp, but dawn was beautiful ...

Morning meant tidying up and we 'left nothing behind but footprints and took nothing away but photographs': just as Mr Purcell requested.

There are more photographs in the Gallery.

U12 Win St Andrew's Tournament

This was a great tournament because the girls got the opportunity to play all the teams involved. This meant that the girls really had to concentrate for the entire afternoon. They played well against all of the opposition:

v Bedes 9- ½ Won
v St Andrew’s 6 ½- 2 Won
v Marlborough House  lost 3 ½-5
v Ashdown House Won 10 ½-3 1/2
v Windlesham House Won 5-3
v Moira House Won 11-0
v Bucks Wood Won- game forfeited by opposition due to time: Brambletye scored 4 rounders scored in 2 minutes!

Receiving the trophy

Windlesham House were our toughest match and they were the eventual Runners Up, but we were on top form. We only dropped one match, but this still put us top of the table. Our strongest performance was against Moira House where we got the team out in three minutes and they were unable to score!
There was no individual player of the tournament because what was amazing about our team was that they all contributed.
Well done team.

NSEA Show

A very busy show last Saturday at the National Schools Equestrian Association Show, hosted at Felbridge by Copthorne Prep School.

Daisy, Rosie and Rosanna rode very well in the 80 cm class. In the 90 cm class they did very well with a team 4th place. They were only a team of three so there is more pressure to go clear. Special mention to Rosie with a lovely round and her first time competing at that height.

We have a Grass Roots team already going to the Regional Championships in the Autumn but Lolly and Christopher wanted to try for individuals placings and Christopher came a respectable 4th in the 70 cm class.

Big Tree Climbing at Brambletye

The Big Tree Climbing Company came to school on Sunday the 22nd May and every boarder scaled our mighty oak tree at least once!

Getting close to nature

Just hanging around!

Getting ready for 'Take Off'!

Swinging in the treetops!

Borde Hill Horse Trials 2016

Congratulations to Tallulah who came 6th overall in the Borde Hill Horse Trials on Saturday 28th May. She was competing against adults, some of them professional, so the competition was very tough indeed.

She did really well, achieving a double-clear in the show jumping and cross-country phases.  Her dressage was good but not good enough to be in the top placings.  Tallulah says that she is very determined to make her mark this eventing season and this is very good start.

IAPS sailing results

Our two senior teams did really well with a best place of 10th out of 59 boats in race one.
Overall our two boats came 26th and 35th after all four races. A very respectable result considering this is our first ever regatta and our limited racing experience.

Day Two of the IAPS Regatta

Today the wind is calmer for our two senior crews. It's 10 knots gusting 13 knots. There are 118 pupils from 26 schools sailing 59 boats. Here they all are:
And our Y7&8 team
They all set off for the start
In boats 23 & 26 from the centres new fleet.
After the first two races, in which they finished towards middle of the pack, it's back for lunch
And refuelling for the second half of the event.
No official results yet but parental guesstimates put them about halfway up the fleet.

IAPS Sailing regatta Day One

Day one of the IAPS Sailing regatta saw our junior teams put to the test with a variety of conditions.
Fifty six boats were rigged by the children from schools both local and from all over the south.
Our two boats set off from the shore with the wind peaking at over 20 knots for the first two races.
Binoculars were essential for a good view
And it was important to remember the sail numbers.
An hour break for lunch and a warm up.
The wind died off in the afternoon so the going was somewhat slower.
After the two afternoon races all returned safely and the results were calculated.
Our teams produced some very respectable results.
Our Y4&5 girls came 42nd out of 56
And our Y6 boys came halfway down the field at 23rd.
A great pair of results for our first IAPS regatta.
