How Far and How Fast?

Blue sky, hot shining sun and a windless day are pleasant for spectators but ironically make a cross country run all the harder.

The Years 8 and 7 led off the afternoon with some stunning performances: Emma took over the lead at the half way mark and led the next fastest Cumnor runner right up to within 100 metres of the finishing line. Frustratingly for Emma she was not able to out sprint the Cumnor runner and so was overtaken and took the silver medal. Congratulations to Cumnor for winning this race.

The stand out star performer of the afternoon was Winnie who won the gold medal by racing around the course and leaving her fellow competitors trailing in her wake.

Winnie had some self-doubt before the race began but the steep incline was the making of her as she kept on running faster and faster as the other runners fell behind; not being able to cope with the fatigue of running up hill.

Other special mentions go to Bea , Saskia and Rebecca who had never taken part in a cross country race, but nevertheless they bravely competed and gave all they had to run the course; doing themselves and their school proud.

Alice also had a fine run and took the bronze medal in the Year six race. She has the makings of a fine runner.
