Brambletye Pupils Raise Over £15,000 For Charity

Pupils from Brambletye School presented a cheque for £15,310.54 to their chosen charity SOS Children’s Villages on Friday. The money was raised over an academic year through a number of activities organised by pupils, staff and parents.

“3 charities, each represented by a member of staff were pitched to the children. Based on what they heard and saw, the children voted for their preferred charity and SOS Brazil was the winner” said Peta Andrews, Director of Music, who is the member of staff representing SOS Brazil.

Fundraising activities included an auction of pupil’s art raising £5,000, musical concerts raising £847 and the Brambletye Bake-off which raised £452. Staff and parents ran in marathons and entrepreneurial children devised money-making ventures “The staff and children’s imagination was infinite in initiating ideas to raise the money” said Headmaster, Will Brooks.

“It is very important that our children who are fortunate to be educated within a fantastic environment develop an awareness of issues faced by many in the wider world. Through our partnerships with charities, our children are exposed to the incredible work of people who dedicate their lives to make a difference. This understanding creates the foundation for the children’s sense of social responsibility which we hope that they will continue to build on throughout their lives.” said Brooks.

The school will support the Halow Project, a charity for young people with learning difficulties this year.

Girls Cross-Country v Cumnor house

U8/U9 Girls under starters orders

How Far and How Fast?

Blue sky, hot shining sun and a windless day are pleasant for spectators but ironically make a cross country run all the harder.

The Years 8 and 7 led off the afternoon with some stunning performances: Emma took over the lead at the half way mark and led the next fastest Cumnor runner right up to within 100 metres of the finishing line. Frustratingly for Emma she was not able to out sprint the Cumnor runner and so was overtaken and took the silver medal. Congratulations to Cumnor for winning this race.

The stand out star performer of the afternoon was Winnie who won the gold medal by racing around the course and leaving her fellow competitors trailing in her wake.

Winnie had some self-doubt before the race began but the steep incline was the making of her as she kept on running faster and faster as the other runners fell behind; not being able to cope with the fatigue of running up hill.

Other special mentions go to Bea , Saskia and Rebecca who had never taken part in a cross country race, but nevertheless they bravely competed and gave all they had to run the course; doing themselves and their school proud.

Alice also had a fine run and took the bronze medal in the Year six race. She has the makings of a fine runner.
Tired but Happy Year 7 and 8 Team
Well done to all and thank you to Mr Franklin and Mr Johnson for their sterling work and Mrs Cummins and Miss Wybar for so ably directing the runners.
