Bede's Galactic Challenge 2017
A team of Year 7 and 8 pupils travelled to Bedes Senior school to take part in the Bedes’ Galactic Challenge. The brief was to design and cost plans for a mining base on Mercury. There were lots of problems to overcome but by dividing into sub groups or divisions meant that each company managed to get the work done in time.
The final presentations were PowerPoints given to a panel of judges. Brambletye was one of seven schools competing and our pupils presented themselves so well that their peers voted them into two of the three 'Company President' roles and five of the eight 'Head of Division' positions.
British Wildlife Centre Owls on flying visit!
The British Wildlife Centre owls
came to visit Year 8 on Monday. They are doing an ecological study of owls at the
moment and meeting the owls in the flesh (feather) puts all the theory into
context, especially how they can fly silently when hunting.
The Barn owl flew
in the theatre much to the delight of our Y8 pupils.
1st Team Girls have had a fantastic Hockey Season
Indoor and Outdoor Hockey:
Played 19 Won
15 Drew 2 Lost 2
Total Goals For: 100
Total Goals Against: 29
Winners of the Copthorne Indoor Tournament
This year’s
1st Hockey Team developed into one of the best and most successful hockey teams
that Brambletye has produced since the introduction of girls’ hockey in 1999.
This year we were fortunate to have five girls in the squad who had served
their apprenticeship and had represented the 1st Team last year. In practice
sessions this term, all the girls worked extremely hard on their body strength,
fitness and skill both on and off the ball. As the season went on we managed to
record some fabulous victories over some very strong opposition teams in both
indoor and outdoor hockey matches.
The season produced numerous highlights but the
pick of these included beating Handcross Park 7-0, beating Cumnor House 8-2,
beating Holmewood House 9 - 7 and the fabulous hockey played by all our 1st
Team girls in the East Grinstead U 13s Outdoor Tournament. Nevertheless, the
icing on the cake came in our very last fixture of the season when we won the
Copthorne Indoor Tournament.
Meanwhile, this week the exciting news also came through that
our Captain of Hockey had been picked to represent Sussex!
Year 7 visit the Natural History Museum
Yesterday Year 7 went into London on the train in order to visit the Natural History Museum. This was to support their work in Biology this term.
They had hands on experience with samples in the Discovery Centre where they had to try to work out what the samples were and where they came from:
Over the course of the whole day they made a short film about food chains ... the final editing was done on the train journey home ... here is just one of the films.
